SOUTH AFRICA

Luke - June 2, 2020

"My name is Luke and I'm 12 years old. My family and I are just going with the flow! The biggest conflict I've faced so far in terms of COVID-19 is school being closed. We have been on lockdown since towards the end of March.

I know that one of our closet family friends which is in the front lines has had the virus. When I look outside my window I see my neighbors but I sure wish I could see more! When I left my house I saw many cars on the road then I thought it would be out.

During my free time, I have been making TikToks and doing homework like any other teen! I am looking forward to making new friends in my new school and looking forward to seeing all my family members once all of this is over. I miss going out with friends and having the freedom to worry about nothing.

In my opinion, I feel that the South African government has done all it can to keep us safe.

When I hear someone say the word, "quarantine" the first word that comes to mind is zol, it’s a song made when a political party member was addressing the nation and could not pronounce a word right"

Layla - June 2, 2020

"My name is Layla and I am 16 years old. My family and I, We’re doing okay except for the days we're annoyed with each other. For me, the biggest conflict I've faced so far in terms of COVID-19 is not being able to see all my family after 2 years and this is making it worse because there are a lot of old people and it worries me sometimes.

We’ve been in quarantine/lockdown since we landed in South Africa I guess u could say. I know that one of my dad's friends is a police officer on the front lines and caught it while on duty.

When I look outside my window I see My neighbours and I wish I could see more. When I left my house I saw a lot of greenery. During my free time, I've Just been doing school work and sitting around honestly but still talking to a lot of my friends in India.

once all of this is over, I look forward to Actually going to school and making new friends also seeing my family and making sure they’re all right. I miss Going out with friends and family, exploring and being able to see people.

I think that my government has been amazing since COVID-19 started I think we were the first country to act quick enough to stop/ slow down the spread."
