MIDDLE EAST

AMMAN,

JORDAN

Esam Rimawi - April 29, 2020

“I am 14 years old. My family and I are doing fine. One of the biggest conflicts is needing to keep the house clean. That’s pretty hard because we’re used to having a nanny and now that we’re staying in our house 24/7, it easily becomes messy.

The whole population of Jordan is under lockdown and has a curfew and we started the lockdown around the end of March. I’m not personally close to anyone who has the coronavirus but I do know some people by name who do.

When I look out the window I don’t see many cars driving. Other than that, nothing has really changed. I’ve definitely been spending more time on my electronic devices, killing all the time I have at home. I also keep contact with all my friends and always talk to them.

After lockdown I’m really looking forward to escaping my house, seeing my friends, going out to public places, ordering food, etc.  I kind of am starting to miss normal school! I think my government has been doing a good job of keeping everyone at their houses, sterilizing the streets and public areas. Also organizing the goods and services we need, such as water and food.  I think of danger when I hear “coronavirus”.”

“I am 11 years old, and I am turning 12 in June. I think that me and my family are doing pretty well. The biggest conflict Ive faced in terms of COVID-19 so far is probably not being able to see friends. We started our lockdown/quarantine on March 19th.

I don't know anyone who has had the coronavirus but my parents do. When I look outside my window, I sometimes see people, and we see many people walking, since you have to have a special permit in order to drive during certain times. I have left my house with my mom and took my dog on a walk.

I noticed that Around 90% of the people were wearing masks, and some were wearing gloves. I have been cooking/baking, and watching Netflix during my free time. I look forward to maybe being able to travel, and see friends once all of this is over.

I miss not being so scared, like spraying and washing the groceries and not going close to people like friends. I think that the government is doing an amazing job. People can’t leave their houses after 6pm. On most weekends we can’t leave our houses at all. If people don’t listen, they get arrested for months. The first words that come to mind when I hear someone say, "Coronavirus" are  Gloves, masks, and hygiene.”
